PODCAST - ep004 - Faster, Pussycat

There are so many mind-blowing songs coming out right now that it's incredibly difficult to pare it all down to one concise hour of the best music, but I've tried once again. The song to song flow may be a bit off, but what can you do when amazing bands are coming at you left, right and center with all kinds of different styles? You just dig your heels in and enjoy the barrage. I fixed the audio so that the levels were about even on all the songs but I don't think it worked out too well so if you wildly different volumes levels on some of the songs here, I apologize.

WIDOW AND CHILDREN - Volume I

You may remember my spotlight of Widow & Children's first three songs and that the songs represented half of their upcoming debut EP, well it's here! It's been a fun time lately, between this band and another brand-new personal favorite Strange Broue releasing tracks one or two at a time, here and there like, coupled with the ghosts following me around as always, I feel like Pacman. And how can that be a bad thing?
'Volume I' complete the picture of an up-and-coming band that takes the menacing feel of early Sabbath riffs and mixes it with an energetic punkish spirit and harder-edged vocals, not entirely unlike Motherslug or homestate heroes Shroud Eater. If they're not already, Widow & Children will be on everybody's radar in the near future. This is quite the introduction

And I still love that cover.

WIDOW AND CHILDREN - Am I Dead?

Just when you thought you'd heard the last of Widow and Children before they release their full 6 song EP, they throw a tune out there that is just perfect for this site. "Am I Dead?" is the third song released by the Floridian foursome in the past two weeks. The first one "No End Now" came out December 23 but the second track, "Sustain" was just released like two days ago. So having "Am I Dead?" appear today was a pleasant surprise. More Sabbath-worshipping stoner doom, I dig it mightily. And I love that album artwork too.

And just for the hell of it, let's share all three of the Widow and Children tracks on bandcamp and the German who obsesses about these sorts of details in me says to go in chronological order so we'll do that. Keep in mind, I'm hearing that this is only half of the songs from the EP, and I speculate that they probably will all end  up in one convenient package in the near future. Catch them on facebook and stay up to date.

Thanks to the ever-vigilant team at Doomed & Stoned for sharing the news of the EP!
